XNG Micro Reviews Part 1: Oblivion, Bayonetta, Doodle Fit…

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - PS3

Open-world fantasy action role-playing at it’s finest. Recently made obsolete by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Still a great Bethesda game that’s worth playing. +

Bayonetta – PS3

This game only further proves how truly bizarre the Japanese can be. Sugary pop soundtrack, ridiculous nonsensical story, unfulfilling button-mashing gameplay. Weird, weird, and more weird. -

X-Men Arcade – PSN

The classic arcade game from the early 90′s in full HD. Multiplayer is included, but is somewhat unnecessary due to unlimited credits. A rather simple beat-em-up and surprisingly short in length. Still a nice bit of nostalgia. +

My Aquarium – PSN

It is exactly as it sounds. An aquarium. You feed the fish, you look at the fish. That’s it. No, really, that’s it. Next will be the “let’s watch paint dry” game. -

Dino Crisis – PS1 Classic

Think Resident Evil with dinosaurs. Multiple endings and unlockables. Retro survival horror format. A real PS1 classic. Watch out for the T-Rex (he bites). +

Hot Shots Golf 2 – PS1 Classic

Before the days of Tiger Woods there was Hot Shots Golf. 2-D characters on 3-D courses. 3-tap golf swing, very inaccurate. Cameos by Sir Dan (Medeivel), Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal), and Gex (Gex) if you can unlock them. A mediocre golf game made obsolete a decade ago. -

Full Spectrum Warrior – PS2 Classic

Not your typical warfare game. Tactical and strategic. Squadron is moved about like a game of chess. Command them to move from cover to cover and fire at hostiles from safe positions. Not as hands-on as some would like, but still an intriguing take on modern combat. +

Bloodrayne – PS2 Classic

Who needs a coherent story and satisfying gameplay when you’ve got sexy vampires? Bloodrayne is the height of mediocrity (as is Bloodrayne 2). Should this have really been a PS2 Classic? -

Doodle Fit – Minis

Like Tetris without the time constraints or pressure. Rather than forming lines with falling blocks, peices are fitted into shapes like putting together a puzzle. Frustrating but addictive. +

Street Smart - Minis

A button-masher. No special moves, no blocking, no tactics whatsoever. Just a typical quarter eater arcade fighter. Looking for depth? Look elsewhere. -
