It has been a solid week now since issues have occurred with the PlayStation Network Servers and we finally see a new vague update on the errors. As of 6:00AM (EST GMT-5 )if you have tried to login to the PlayStation Network you no longer see error codes 80710092 and 80710A06, instead you will encounter this:

PlayStation Network is Currently Undergoing Maintenance

The Devs in charge of the maintenance 2 days ago stated that it may take roughly 48 hours to get the servers back online and that could mean anytime today or perhaps maybe even later.  There is no clear answer and no solid information regarding when the servers will be back online.

One important thing we feel everyone should know is that you should discredit all the “anonymous hacking” rumors.  If you have paid any attention to their IRC server, it has been rather dormant for the past week and a half.

XN-Games.Net’s PSN Downtime Theory: We are beginning to believe that the downtime may have been triggered by the integration between Steam and the PlayStation Network.  Imagine two high volume services colliding into each other… This may have caused a high IOwait that may explain the frequent 80710092 and 80710A06 error codes.

UPDATE: April 22 10:52

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.

It would appear our theory may have been wrong. Then again adding Steam may have added security holes into their system.

April 23rd/April 24th:
It has been 2 days since SCEA’s Patrick Seybolds released a statement on Sony’s PlayStation Blog generally stating that the Devs are rewriting the PSN code and they aren’t sure when the PSN will come back online.

We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.

We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.

It is April 25th and there is still no word on when the PSN will be taken back online according to Sony. We feel that it is important to notice that the PlayStation Network was taken offline not too long after trading ended Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange. Sony (SNE:NYSE) may have decided to wait this long  for a long 3 day weekend to minimize the damages this situation may cause after a fairly decent week of trading.  It is not known what kind of damage the outage may have caused but we will see as Sony:SNE Stock will resume trading today at 30.50. We will continue to monitor SNE as the day progresses.

Sony released this statement not too long ago:

I know you are waiting for additional information on when PlayStation Network and Qriocity services will be online. Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time.

As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. We’ll keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.
